When We Were Younger Than The Sun

When we were younger than the sun,
You were only a side-kick.
Always by my side,
saving me from the villainous teachers,
treacherous homework,
and dastardly gym sessions of the dreaded Kick-ball.

Before the stars began to shine,
you were only a princess.
learning to balance history textbooks on your head,
loosing your first kiss to a frog,
and dancing at the ball until the clock stroke 13.

Until the comets began to burst,
you were only part of the ensemble.
Waiting to say your one line,
"The sun will come out: tomorrow!"
Meaning it with all your guts.
Stage fright was afraid of you,
and you had so much confidence in you,
you secretly knew that you were the spotlight.

But as we grow, we are supposed to
wedge our feet into the sand,
Sand that turns to cement
and blockades us from the ocean.
Because Atlantis is too far away, (or so they say),
and dangerous things live in the ocean.

When we grow,
we are told that every hero has a weakness,
Princess are only in Disney Movies,
and the life of an actress is too hard:

This world is going to eat us alive
Better lay down on the plate and season ourselves.

There is not escaping fate.

But you,
you took Peter Pan's hand and flew off to Neverland.
You conquered,
and convinced the rest of the world that
the ocean is where mermaids and lost treasure live,
Princesses are real if you believe in them,
and that you're tony speech was amazing.

You are a superhero,
You are a queen:
Go on and take your bow.

Growing up doesn't meant
Growing old,
You are as young as you feel,
you are as beautiful as you believe in,

And you ARE worth it.
